Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

The RCIA, also called the Catechumenate, is the process by which adult persons are brought into membership of the Roman Catholic Church. The RCIA can best be described as a journey of faith which passes through a number of different phases or periods. The RCIA places the focus on the person of Jesus and makes a clear connection between Christian initiation and the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. From the moment someone is received into the catechumenate, he or she becomes part of the household of Christ, nourished by the Word of God and eager to receive the sacraments of life which will make them full members of the community of faith.
